Recollections of Old Boys

OKGA : Groups and Activities : Senior Knoxonians

The Senior Knoxonians is a club for Old Boys of Knox who left the school 50 years or more ago. The Club was founded in 1984 and has about 330 members who meet formally twice a year for lunch, usually at the School, in March (members only) and September (members and their partner).  The Senior Knoxonians has a secure place within the Knox community.  Indeed, the passage of time and the remarkable loyalty of Old Boys to the School will give it continuing and in the end, rapid growth.  The Club's pattern of meetings is by now well established and serves our needs exactly.  That is a tribute to the wisdom of past leaders, who saw that our members would want to meet regularly and so keep in touch with one another but not have too elaborate or extensive a program.

The Club has always had ways of keeping in touch with activities in the School. The orchestra, for example has performed for us, creating a special bond between the Senior Knoxonians, the Director of Music and School music.

An important exercise in maintaining the history and tradition has been the collection of members' profiles, gathered in book form, and that we owe to Charles Wannan and Dick Miles. The collection is continuing.  Another commemoration is the OKGA's annual presentation of Swords, Bagpipes, Kilts and Sporrans in honour of those who died and served in war.

The connection with the OKGA is an important one for our Club and the Senior Knoxonians' President continues the practice of attending regularly the OKGA committee meetings.

Our Club is a meeting place for its members providing the pleasure of reunions, recovery of memories and sharing of experiences. It also represents the long history of the School and reinforces its present life and activities in all their variety.
