OKGA : Structure

The ex-students of Knox, generally known as the "Old Boys" of Knox, form a vital sector of the Knox Community.  Their umbrella group, the Old Knox Grammarians' Association Inc (OKGA), is an active one whose objectives are:

• To maintain contact among Old Boys of the School.
• To promote and foster the interest of Old Boys in the School.
• To promote and foster the welfare of the School.

The Committee of the Association meets every month (with the exception of January) and the Annual General Meeting is held early in each new school year, at which time all office bearers' positions are declared vacant. The above committee is made up of:

• President (maximum of three annual terms)
• Vice President
• Secretary
• Treasurer
• A minimum of five committee members

In practice the committee consists of approximately fifteen people with a balance of leavers from the 30's through to more recent years. There is only one category of membership, which is life.  Any student who has attended the School for one term or more is entitled to join the OKGA, upon payment of the prescribed Life Membership fee. All students in their final year are presented with an Old Boys tie and are strongly encouraged to join the Association.

The Old Boys Association contributes to a number of prizes awarded on Speech Day and also scholarships. It makes "most improved" awards in the full range of summer and winter sports and of cultural activities. In addition, presentations are made of sporrans, bagpipes, swords and drums to the Cadet Corps in remembrance of Old Boys of the School.

To maintain contact with the Old Boys a register of names and addresses is kept at the School and requires constant updating.
