KAPA (Knox Academy of Performing Arts) Knox has a strong tradition of musical performance and drama production. KAPA produces annual musicals as well as a variety of drama and music performances throughout the year. With the support of Gary Monger, Composer-in-Residence, students compose and perform the music for numerous plays.

Each year, Knox presents a musical production of outstanding quality. Performances have included Guys and Dolls (2007) and Footloose (2008). The musical is a highly regarded activity at Knox offering social, musical, dramatic and movement experience welded by a great team spirit. In fact, the lead role in a Knox musical was the first stepping stone to Broadway for Hugh Jackman. The productions are staged and choreographed professionally by the Drama Department in collaboration with Music staff.
In general, the musical is an activity for Years 8-11 students. Younger students are placed in the orchestra or band if they are sufficiently advanced and some productions have roles for students from junior years. These are auditioned posistions.
Auditions for each year's musical commence in Term 4 of the preceeding year. Rehearsals for the musical commence early in Term 1 and continue until the performance in Term 2, representing a major commitment in time and effort. Admission to the chorus is by auditions held in the first weeks of term. Further auditions determine principal roles. Orchestra members are selected from a list of applicants. |
