Boarders' Testimonials
|
Shan Chopra, Boarder, Year 10 Shan is a boarder from New Delhi, he says "The opportunity to play soccer, basketball and rugby in Australia is just awesome. I have made so many friends from Sydney, rural Australia and from overseas and I am really enjoying the Aussie lifestyle. We have barbeques, go to the beach and even learn to surf. I have seen the sights of Sydney, been on a harbour cruise and to the theatre. I’m also in the Cadets and really enjoy the field work and bush camps. Of course I am here to study as well and the access to great teachers and tutors is fantastic."

Matthew Davidson, Boarder, Year 11 Matthew, who has recently joined us, says "The advantage of Boarding is that the staff make sure I do my work and this will be of benefit in my end result. Another advantage of living at school means I don’t spend too much time travelling. This means I am better organised and have time for tennis and relaxing with friends. Also I am learning to become more independent. Boarding teaches me skills that I will need later in life when living on my own or in shared accommodation." |

Charlie Capp, Boarder, Year 8 Charlie says "Boarding at Knox keeps me focused on my school work and provides me with a great variety of activities and weekend excursions. I have made a lot of friends whom I hope will stay with me forever. I have the best of both worlds by Boarding as I am in touch with my parents whenever I want to, but I can still remain on task to study and participate in rugby and cricket." |

Harry Singh, Boarder, Year 12 Harry, from Tamworth in rural New South Wales, joined the Knox Boarding community as a Year 7 student and says "The boarding house has had a tremendous influence on me. Firstly, it has made me more tolerant of people’s annoying habits and has given me skills to function in a close knit community. Secondly, I have established a good study and work ethic. Thirdly, it has allowed for a more worldly view, Sydney is very different to Tamworth, both in size and mentality.
I have created many friendships, after you live with a mate for six years you empathise with them fairly well. The school has an amazing community, many boarders have commented about the friendships made in the boarding house. There are some friendships made in boarding that would not have been achieved elsewhere. For example, you don’t find in too many places a guy from Narrendera being mates with a guy from South Korea at the age of 17.
The staff are also great; they provide help in many areas of expertise and bring a real world perspective on situations. There isn’t anything better than having a teacher living in the same area as you during your HSC giving you advice on what to do to get the top marks. |
