Knox is dedicated to the emotional, physical, social and spiritual wellbeing of every boy.  Our aim is for every boy to be known and feel connected to Knox in general and to particular staff members.  Below is an explanation of the standards, guidelines and procedures involved in maintaining the welfare and discipline of Knox students.  The objectives of this policy are to encourage the students of Knox to:

  • Be guided by their rights and responsibilities.
  • Be encouraged by positive affirmation and rewards.
  • Raise their level of involvement and performance by self evaluation and reporting.
  • Reduce poor behaviour with fair and firm penalties and, if poor behaviour persists.
  • Gain assistance from the school's welfare and counselling resources, in partnership with parents.
  • Enjoy a cooperative learning environment.

Helping boys through difficulties and working with their parents to monitor progress is the foundation for Knox Grammar School's pastoral care program.  It has all the structures in place - a safety net consisting of tutors, Year Masters, House Masters, counsellors and indeed, the boys themselves.

For Knox staff, pastoral care responsibilities mean showing a willingness to be an adult on whom boys may depend for support, someone who will listen, advise, encourage and help.  And for staff it means being prepared to spend time and energy on boys who find themselves in difficulties.
