Senior : Nuts and Bolts : Travel to School
Only Year 12 students are permitted to drive to School. Permission forms are obtained from the Year 12 Year Master and must be signed by the student's parents and returned to the Year Master before permission can be granted.
Parking in the streets surrounding Knox is a constant problem. Cars are continually parked illegally and in many cases, driveways are being obstructed. We ask those collecting students and visiting School grounds to show consideration to our neighbours at all times.
Bicycle safety helmets are compulsory for ALL students who ride to School. Bicycles are not to be ridden in the grounds. Bicycle racks are out of bounds except for bicycle riders when they arrive and leave the School.
Travel Passes New annual travel passes are issued to the School in February by the various travel authorities and handed out to students when they are received. The previous year's pass is usually accepted for travel for the first few weeks at the beginning of the new school year until the new passes are available. These include:
- Day students' weekday rail.
- Boarders' weekend/vacation pass.
- Government bus/ferry.
- Private bus pass.
- Railway Pupil Identification/Concession Card for pupils aged 16, 17 or 18 years. These are issued in or about March each year, or can be collected when the student turns 16.
Parents should note Senior School students take the train to Warrawee - only Prep School boys alight at Wahroonga.
Unchanged Journeys Day students in Years 8 to 12 automatically receive all new passes in Term 1 of subsequent years provided there has been no change of name or address, including boarder to day student or vice versa, when new applications must be made.
New or modified applications - new students, name or address change Application for passes for new studensts must be made at the appropriate time:
- Year 7 students new to Knox - forms are issued on Orientation Day
- New students in other years - forms issued Week 1 Term 1 or any time of year on a new student's arrival.
- Any student who has a change of name or address (including boarders) - forms issued as requested.
- Year 6 Prep School students continuing to Year 7 - the government requires new applications for these students as the School station for the Senior School must be Warrawee (not Wahroonga). Forms will be issued in Term 4 the previous year and should be marked as Year 7 students.
- All Year 7 boarders - issues of applications and passes will occur at Gilmore Boarding House during February, Term 1.
The passes for students starting at the beginning of the school year are usually received in February and handed directly to students.

- For private bus passes, a letter should be written by the student's parent/guardian to the company requesting a replacement pass. Please include student details, a brief explanation of the situation and a fee of $11. The pass will be forwarded to your address. Some companies allow this to be done over the counter at their offices.
Rail Travel StateRail advises students need to understand that in holding a student pass they have certain obligations, both for their own safety and for the safety of others.
Student pass holders are required to give up their seat while travelling on their pass if there are insufficient seats for adult passengers. Transit officers will contact the School with names of students who refuse to give up their seat and repeat offenders risk having their pass confiscated for a period.
StateRail also asks students to understand the significance of safe behaviour while waiting for trains at stations, specifically:
- Remaining behind the yellow line at the edge of platforms.
- Not allowing bags to obstruct the path of other passengers, including other students.
- Not engaging in physical play that could lead to falling on the tracks.
- Not trying to board a moving train.
