Training and Qualifying Expedition

Outline: This training and assessment weekend will be run by Camp Somerset in the Upper Colo River area. Each boy will be part of a group of ten Knox boys, led by an experienced and qualified instructor. The trip will be based around hiking and camping and delivered by our provider and overseen by Mr Trollope.

This will be a highly structured program that is focused on ensuring that the boys are fully prepared and trained, ready for a successful assessment at the end of the course. The cost of the weekend is $245.00 and includes all training and activities, transport, tents, cookers and instruction. It also includes all food Day 1, breakfast Day 2 and training and a training booklet. The boys will be required to plan and provide their own food on the expedition phase, as part of the assessment process. As a result they will need to provide: 2 lunches, 1 breakfast and 1 dinner. The equipment list will assist with packing and tents and cooking equipment will be supplied by our provider.

Program
Day 1:
Travel by coach to Colo Valley
Training and preparation – instruction by qualified Somerset staff about route planning, navigation, emergency response, packing, equipment, cooking, weather, camp craft, group and personal gear and environmental factors
lunch and dinner provided

Day 2:
Expedition and assessment – by qualified Somerset staff
Breakfast provided, boys need to provide lunch and dinner

Day 3:

Expedition and assessment – by qualified Somerset staff
Boys need to provide breakfast and lunch
Return by coach to Knox

To ensure the boys are completely ready for assessment, there will be compulsory training every Tuesday and Thursday lunch time in room LG4. This will start 15 September.

During the weekend, should you need to make emergency contact with a participant or member of staff, the 24 hour phone number will be: 0417 313 151. Obviously this is a School trip and as such, boys should remember that all school rules apply.

Consent:

Please fill in the consent and medical forms, along with a payment for the trip via the payment portal (Go to the Homepage, choose - Make a Payment” and select - Other School Activities”. Please select the submenu Duke of Edinburgh). Please notify Mr Trollope if you find your son is unable to attend.
