Senior : Outdoor Education : Yr7 Camp - March 08

Updates from Camp:

14 March - 3.30pm

**The boys will be back about 7.00pm tonight!**

There is no problem, except that the traffic is not the best. There was no report for yesterday 13 March, except that all is well.

12 March - 6.40pm

Weather reports from the South Coast are cloudy but dry. The group that returned from their hilly trek had a good long soak in the pool to wash away the dirt. They enjoyed their time learning about indigenous culture, about bush food and how to play the didgeridoo!

The surfers had a lot of fun, waves reported to be half a meter to a meter in height with crystal clear waters. One group sighted some big fish while snorkelling at the Bass Point Nature Reserve.

A few visitors popped in to see the boys at dinner. Mr Humphries, the assistant Yearmaster dropped by while the boys ate their dinner, as did Mr Raynard who one of the GDMs.

Mr Knight came to collect the CAS swimmers today. We wish them all the best!

11 March - 9.45pm
We have had fantastic weather; clouds were building up today but no rain yet. Different groups were very busy doing different things today:

The group camping on the hills came back in fine form with many stories to tell about how they survived. They spent some time with the local Aborigines today doing indigenous activities.

Another group was doing water activities today. They had a great day, using lots of sun screen and are tired out now.

The third group spent the day in the rain forest, looking at plants and birds. The afternoon for them was spent canoeing with no capsizes reported.

The wildlife consists mostly of peacocks roaming around the camp area and they are quite vocal at times. There are no photos to post as the camera is not working in the mobile phone.

Overall the boys are in great spirits, all is well. We are looking forward to a visit from the Chaplains on Thursday. The CAS boys will be picked up tomorrow, leaving to attend the Swimming and Diving. If you have any problems, please ring Mr Knight on the emergency number provided.

10 March -  5.15pm
A wonderful day, the weather is fantastic here on the South Coast. The boys have been surfing on a gentle swell, also snorkelling in crystal seas, under blue skies. Some boys went to an overnight camp off-site, a mini expedition. They were well organised and being shown how to pack their bags and what food to share. Another group visited the Minnamurra Rainforest and were canoeing in the afternoon. It's been a great first day, the boys and staff are in great form.

General Information:
Year 7 will head out to camp in March to explore the theme of coastal diversity. They will be staying at the Jamberoo Valley Lodge Outdoor Education Centre about 20 minutes from Kiama where they will be housed in dormitory style accommodation for three nights and have their meals in the dining hall. This will be followed by an overnight camp. Activities will include canoeing, surfing, snorkelling and bush walking, in each of which the boys will receive structured instruction and a firm grounding in the fundamental skills needed.

Please be aware this camp is a compulsory part of your son's education at Knox and his attendance is expected just as it would be in the classroom or at sport.
