Senior : Sport : Code of Behaviour
The School has implemented the following code of behaviour to ensure enjoyment of Saturday sports fixtures by all players, spectators and coaches:
- Only team captains may speak to the referee.
- Verbal abuse of referees is never permitted.
- Offensive language by players and spectators is not allowed.
Failure to acknowledge and abide by the code may result in dismissal from the playing arena by match officials. Please accept the code and contribute to the creation of an enjoyable and friendly atmosphere for Saturday sport at Knox.
Combined Associated Schools code of conduct for outside games This is a code of behaviour for spectators at football games (students & parents) from the CAS Headmasters' Committee:
- We encourage students to support their School teams and to dress in the School's uniform while doing so.
- We expect barracking to be enthusiastic but not fanatical or designed to heckle, belittle or disturb the opponents. For example, barracking, for or against, during a kick at goal is always bad sportsmanship. Students should be encouraged to barrack for their School rather than for an individual team member. Booing, whistling, playing or beating musical instruments is in bad taste and wholly unacceptable.
- Vocal support for any team should never encourage violence or rough or illegal play.
- Encroaching on the field of play or shouting out suggestions for players, referees or umpires to hear are not permitted.
- It is never right to express disapproval of a referee or umpire's decision, no matter whether the referee is an adult or student.
- There is a complete ban on all alcoholic drinks.
- We expect our players to be modest in success and generous in defeat, not showing in either case undue emotion. Good play, by our own School and by the opposing School, should be applauded willingly and openly.
- At all times, spectators should leave the area tidy and free of rubbish.
- We look to adults (parents, Old Boys and other spectators) to set an example by their self-control at matches.
