Knox Grammar School is pleased to report that two of its students, Thomas Farmakis and Shawn Teo have come first in the State in their HSC subjects. Thomas Farmakis was first in Legal Studies and Shawn Teo was first in Mathematics while Thomas and fellow student, Joshua Lee both scored 99.95; the highest possible ATAR.
206 Knox boys, making up the Class of 2010, have achieved the most impressive results for the School since the inception of the new standards-based HSC in 2001.
Fourteen boys achieved an ATAR of 99.0 or higher and a record eighteen boys were recognised on the All Round Achiever’s List for obtaining a Band 6 (90+) in ten or more of the units they studied. The 2010 cohort achieved 340 Band 6 (90+) results while eight boys finished in the top 20 across the State in individual subjects.
Knox is the top performing boys’ boarding school; superb results from our rural and overseas boarders include Joe Phelps from Mungindi, Sandy Laurie from Moppy and Jonathon Choi from Hong Kong, all three with an ATAR over 95.
Joe also had the distinction of having his Visual Arts body of work selected for display in ARTEXPRESS which is a series of exhibitions of outstanding artworks created by HSC students. He has been offered a place at the University of NSW to study for a Bachelor of Architectural Studies.
With increasing numbers of regional boarders joining Knox each year, we look forward to future success, and an ever-strengthening relationship between Knox and regional families.
Knox Headmaster, Mr John Weeks, said “I am delighted for the Class of 2010 who, in close partnership with their teachers, have achieved these very pleasing results. The School has been improving year upon year and I believe the foundation is in place for ongoing success in the years ahead.”
