Knox graduate wins award for innovative design

18-Feb-2013

2012 Knox graduate Mathew Butler has won the Powerhouse Museum Award for Innovation in Design for his Design and Technology HSC major design project the Buoyancy Oceanic Safety System (BOSS).

The device is on exhibition at the Powerhouse Museum until 12 May as part of the DesignTECH exhibition.

Mathew’s Buoyant Oceanic Safety System (BOSS) incorporates new technology to help lifeguards communicate with swimmers who may be in danger.

The BOSS can be positioned so it is in swimmers’ line of sight, while its high visibility colours and warning system mean it can be seen and heard in almost all conditions. Lifeguards can use the large megaphone via their UHF radio to send audible warnings.
