Knox Prep Concert Band’s Success in the Yamaha Band Festival

30-Jun-2011

At the end of last term our three Knox Prep Concert Bands entered the Yamaha Competition. This is a state band festival that had over one hundred bands enter per section this year.

In all three sections our bands did remarkably well. The Senior Band were in the second highest division and were up against some very tough competition. They started their performance with a piece called 'Eternal Peaks' and mesmerized both the audience and the adjudicators with their amazing performance. “This piece captured me from the very start and I was on the edge of my seat for the whole piece in anticipation, totally mesmerized by your performance” said one of the adjudicators. The Senior Band then went on to play two other very up-beat rocking pieces and won the audience over with their rendition of 'Glee'. The Senior Band were marked hard but were very pleased with the result of a SILVER in their section.

The Intermediate band hit the stage with trumpets blasting in a fanfare like opening in 'Race to the Moon'. They wowed the audience and played all three pieces to perfection thus enabling them to win a GOLD medal for their outstanding performance. They looked smart on stage and were very well balanced. I was thoroughly delighted with the comments made by the adjudicators, one of them saying “the Knox Intermediate Band was by far one of the best concert bands he had seen perform all day”!

Then our little Junior Band members took to the stage! Very nervously they walked on stage hardly able to sit still with nerves and anticipation! They were very energetic and performed brilliantly. Their last piece called 'Lets Rock' was the highlight of the day and made all of the audience smile when at the end they all yelled out ‘Knox Rocks’ instead of Lets Rock! They received a standing ovation from a lot of very proud parents who were supporting them in the crowd and walked away with a high SILVER!

All three Prep Bands have done an amazing job and did our school proud! Congratulations to all members! Your hard work and dedication has definitely paid off!! Let’s hope we can achieve the same high results at the NSW Band Championships early in Term 3!
