Knox swimmers in outstanding form at National Schools Championships

17-Aug-2012

A team of five Knox students represented NSW at the School Sport Australia Swimming Championships at Sydney Olympic Park. With a total of 11 gold, four silver and four bronze medals between them, it was truly an outstanding week.

Vincent Dai (Year 9) set two individual records in the 50m (23.92) and 100m (52.71) freestyle events. Vincent was also a member of two NSW relay teams that set records ahead of strong Queensland and Victorian teams. Winning three individual and two relay gold medals, Vincent had a great week of racing.

Paul Van Westing (Year 10) won gold in 50m Fly (25.53). Paul was also a member of a record breaking NSW relay team that won two gold medals.

Our Prep School swimmers were not overshadowed by their senior teammates, with Leon MacAlister (Year 6) winning the 200m freestyle (2.11.05). Leon went on to also win a silver medal in his 100m backstroke race.

Leon joined his Knox teammate Ben Shariat (Year 6) in the winning freestyle team. Competing together again in the medley team, the Prep School superstars won a silver medal, losing out to the very strong Queenslanders.

Rounding off the medal haul with individual bronze medals was Matthew Georgevits (Year 10) who won medals in 50m and 200m backstroke. Ben Shariat earned an excellent bronze in 50m Fly, and Paul Van Westing won bronze in 50m freestyle.
