NSW Premier Barry O'Farrell with Knox teacher Ms Kathy Lathouras
Last Saturday at Government House, the Premier of NSW presented a select group of teachers with the ‘NSW Premier’s Teacher Scholarships’ for 2011. These prestigious awards are open to all teachers in NSW currently teaching across K-12 in NSW schools and TAFE NSW Institutes.
The scholarships are keenly contested and a competitive application and reference process applies. Scholarships are awarded in subject areas and in other area areas of endeavour.
It is a singular achievement to be awarded with a Premier’s teacher scholarship.
Knox has great pleasure in announcing that Kath Lathouras is this year’s recipient of the NSW Premier’s Teacher Scholarship for English 2011.
The scholarship is worth $15,0000 and the award is for a study in English. The scholarship provides an opportunity to spend up to five weeks involved in a study program overseas. Time need not be spent in formal study, but may involve a program of visits to sites, schools and institutions to conduct interviews, observe exemplary practices and collect resources for the preparation of teaching materials related to English education.
While many Knox teachers have been acknowledged and awarded over the years in a variety of ways, we believe that this is the first NSW Premier’s Teacher Scholarship to be awarded to a serving Knox teacher.
Our heartiest congratulations to Kath on her award and best wishes for success in her area of study.
