Music students celebrate Australian Music Day

06-Aug-2012

The Year 11 Music 2 class were fortunate enough to spend a day at MLC Burwood for the annual Australian Music Day. This special event allows students to work with renowned Australian composers Paul Stanhope and Stuart Greenbaum, who wrote the soundtracks for the films Mao’s Last Dancer and Master and Commander.

MLC Composer in Residence, James Humberstone, guided the boys through an exciting composition project where the boys’ work was sent in real time (via the “cloud”) to the members of the Sydney Metropolitan Chamber Orchestra.

The orchestra, connected to iPads, then played each student’s music and provided instant feedback and corrections. It was an amazing experience for the boys to hear their work come to life so instantaneously and a privilege to hear it played by professional musicians. We’re buzzing with new composition ideas and can’t wait to work on similar projects of our own!
