16-Oct-2013

The swell’s up for students at Knox, with the school offering surfing as a sports choice for the first time.

The High Performance Surfing Program hasbeen introduced from Term 4, with participants to receive expert coaching from Manly Surf School, including video analysis. The boys will surf at either South Narrabeen, Collaroy or Long Reef Beach one afternoon after school and on Saturday morning each week.

“We have a lot of boys who are passionate about surfing, including a number of elite surfers,” said Chuck Ardron, Head of the Knox Academy of Sport. “The program is designed to support our competitive surfers by offering professional coaching and guidance.”

Earlier this year several students competed at the Sydney Schools Surf Titles. Year 10 student Fraser Dovell was selected to compete at the National Championships at Kiama in December.

The program will initially be open to a small group of boys but may be expanded into a larger program in the future.

Knox offeres almost 30 sports for students, including AFL, Karate, Mountain Biking, Fencing, Orienteering and Sailing.
