Prospective : Co-Curricular : Drama
Drama is an academic subject in which Knox boys achieve outstanding results at the HSC level. In addition, it provides boys with life skills by developing in them the ability to think, to perform, to gain confidence, to work as part of a team.
Drama begins as a curriculum subject in Year 8 where students learn the basic skills. It continues as an elective in Years 9 and 10 during which students study a variety of theatre periods and stage their own productions.
Students can continue their studies through the HSC 2 Unit Drama course in Years 11 and 12. At HSC level, students are required to undertake coursework set by the Board of Studies, a group project work involving teams writing and presenting an original short play, as well as a major individual project selected from a list of options which includes among other things an original performance piece, critical theatre review, set or costume design, a director's portfolio and so on. As a result of the diversity of the syllabus, Drama at HSC level is a demanding and thought-provoking subject which offers students considerable challenge and reward.
In addition, students are taken to plays at a variety of theatres in Sydney while visiting theatre companies and workshop programs also come to the School.
The emphasis in drama is on collaboration and experiential learning and it is an area that involves a large number of people in a variety of roles. Students and parents are invited to contribute by assisting with costumes, sound, lights, set production, stage management, make-up, publicity or front of house.
