Australian Business Week is a unique learning experience for nearly 400 Y10 students from Knox and Loreto Normanhurst. Held towards the end of Term 4, the students work in groups on both School campuses, making responsible decisions on behalf of shareholders in their theoretical companies.
There is a distinct competitive element in ABW and as the week progresses, team members become very aware of their team's relative positioning. At the end of the week, business people from each School's community judge each team's efforts, as presented in oral and written reports, a 30-second video, CD-Rom and an often raucous trade display. The top two teams from each campus then present their reports to the other students, mentors and judges before the winning team is decided and presented their medallions.
The week is such a success because of the extraordinary voluntary assistance of Knox parents from the business community, who act as mentors, assist teams with their deliberations and gently guide them towards commercial decisions. Calls for such assistance are made in The Knoxonian and the high response rate is much appreciated and valued.
