Knox Grammar School

From the Head of
Knox Sports Academy Mr Chuck Ardron

As we get closer to the CAS Track and Field Championships it gives me great pleasure to see the number of students at Training and Invitationals. » Read More

This week sees Knox host at Blacktown and I encourage all students involved in Track and Field to give it one last shot at making the team for that day.

Whilst Track & Field has been occurring, so have a number of other activities. I would like to congratulate all those students involved in the state swimming championships on the week-end as well as the state Snow Board championships last week. These students produced some fantastic results with Knox swimmers wining many medals, and 13 snow sports students making it through to the next levels.

I congratulate all those involved and wish those through to the next level all the best.

Finally, I would ask that every students who wishes to attend the CAS Track and Field championships please fill out the appropriate form and have it returned to the KSA office by Monday at 5pm. Full details for the day are in this week’s bulletin.

NSW State Interschool Snowsport Championships
Michael Reardon, MIC Snowsports and Joany Badenhorst, Head Coach

Following one of the most successful results of the interschool regional championships held in the July holidays, 20 ski and snowboard teams represented the School at Perisher last week. Despite the dire weather predictions, mother-nature blessed us with a top up of snow and the competition was held in very reasonable to excellent conditions. » Read More

All boys put in their best efforts and can be proud of the way they conducted themselves throughout the week of competition. It is worthy of note that Knox is both respected and liked by the competitors from other schools as the boys move smoothly through the process of course inspection, ensuring they understand the challenges of the varying race disciplines, but allowing all other competitors the same access to time on the course.

Teams held themselves with a smooth silent determination that shined throughout their races with the snowboarders leading the way early in the competition with outstanding performances from Mac Omm in year 7 taking home Knox’s fist silver, followed by Josh Richter from year 5 navigating the courses with ease!

Then the skiers began to take charge, obtaining the best results Knox has seen for many years. The Knox Division 3 boys; Bodhi Phillips year 8, Thomas and James Constable in year 7 and 8 and Seb McCaughey in year 7, dominated their field by ranking top 6 and qualifying for both Ski-Cross and Alpine GS at the Nationals early this September.

Luke Bowers and Sebastian McCaughey were also selected into the moguls division.

Other students to be commended on their selection to the National Titles are: Hamish McDonald, Jacques Duplooy, Zac Graham (snowboard) and skier Michael Salerno (yr 4).

The snow conditions were challenging and competition was fierce, but all our athletes brilliantly held their own and supported one another whenever they could.

All in all, the 2015 State Championships were a huge success with the Knox Snow Sport team returning stronger than ever, ready to tackle 2016.

Swimming - 2015 NSW State Age Championships

From more than 100 swim clubs from the whole of NSW, over 800 swimmers competed at SOPAC in this year’s winter State Championships. » Read More

25 Knox swimmers were competing and had some outstanding results.

Carrying on from his excellent swims throughout the winter, Leon MacAlister (year 9) picked up 6 individual Gold medals. Leon won Gold in 100m backstroke, 200m backstroke, 50m, 100m freestyle and 200m freestyle, and the 200m medley.

Prep school student Joshua Collett (year 6) joined in on the gold rush, winning the 11yr 50m and 100m breaststroke events, and the 50m and 100m freestyle too.

With the added pressure of exams, year 11 students William Yang and Andrew Hemsworth had to be very selective with what events they could compete in. With a 7am start, and a 7pm finish, it was impossible for the boys to compete all weekend. William still managed to fit in two Gold medal performances though. Will won the 50m freestyle and 100m backstroke events.

Andrew swam the 200 medley, 100m and 200m breaststroke and the 50m freestyle winning minor medals in every event.

Justin Lee (year 8) won a Gold and 5 Silver medals, competing in three different strokes, winning his gold in the 50m freestyle.

Ethan Hansen (year 7) carried on our backstroke success winning Silver in the 12yr event.

Jack Ryan (year 10) went head to head with Leon, and produced a Knox one-two in the 100m freestyle. Jack also won Bronze in the 50m and 200m freestyle.

Sydney Robertson (year 9) won his first State medal, winning Bronze in the 200m freestyle.

The 15/under team of Jack Ryan, Sydney Robertson, Nic Dijohn (year 9), George Zhu (year 9) and Kevin Zhang (year 10) won Silver in both the freestyle and medley relays.

The 12/under boys team of Ethan Hansen, Angus Hornery, Shane Ting and Mark Buddee (all year 7) won Silver in the medley and Bronze in the freestyle relays.

Congratulations to all our qualifiers.

Cody Adam (year10), Mark Buddee (year 7), Nicholas Dijohn (year 9), Bailey Farris (year 7), Andrew Hemsworth (year 11), Angus Hornery (year 7), Josh Johnson (year 7), Lachlan Kelly (year 8), Antonio Matruglio (year 8), Angus Menzies (year 7), Josh Mercer (year 8), Sydney Robertson (year 9), Angus Rowe (year 5), Stephen Sheahan (year 10), James Stark (year 7), Xavier Wall (year 9), Oliver Weeding (year 7).
