Knox Grammar School

From the Head of
Knox Sports Academy Mr Chuck Ardron

CAS track and Field Championships – this Thursday. It is always one of the best days in the Knox sporting calendar and I thank all those who have signed up to participate as a spectator and I know they will enjoy the event. » Read More

This event is always a whole team show, it is not just the athletes - all staff, and all students as well as the opposition schools that make the event the day that it is.

I congratulate those students who have been selected on the team on their efforts and also those who have not been selected for turning up each week and being involved.

I wish the team the best of luck and hope that the weather is good and provides a fantastic twilight meet.

As always, things never stop, and we find ourselves with Summer Sports trials on this Saturday 12th.  I ask that all students check the schedule to ensure they know where they will be involved with the formal start of the summer sports season.

I wish students involved in the NSW State School Croquet championship all the best and look forward to hearing the results.

I also wish all the best to those students who have qualified and are competing in the Australia Schools Snow Sports Championships in Mt Bulla this week.  Good luck to all – and go the black and Blue!

Quote of the Week

'An athlete cannot run with money in his pockets. He must run with hope in his heart and dreams in his head.'
Emil Zatopek

Congratulations Knox Swim Captain Vincent Dai (third from left), who won gold in the Men’s 4x100m relay at World Junior Swimming Championships in Singapore, with a time of 3:17.39!

HIGHLIGHTS

School Sport Australia Cross Country Championships - Sam Rockliffe

On Thursday 27th August I travelled with my family and training mates to Melbourne for the School Sport Australia National Cross Country Championships. » Read More

The next day we had the Opening Ceremony at Mooney Valley Race Course. I was lucky enough to be nominated NSW Team Captain for the Championships.

On the Saturday it was race day. First of all I watched my training mate race and then I was on.

The gun went for my race. I started out hard and then crossed over taking the lead.  The course was  grassy, flat and windy and included sharp turns and zig zags. I tried to use the corners to my advantage by getting around them and accelerating as soon as I was out. When I turned the last corner I thought I could win it so pushed ahead of the group. This is the best part of the race when everyone is cheering and helping you in the home straight. Crossing the finish line was such a relief!

Sam Rockliffe
Sam was crowned National 12 years Cross Country Champion for 2015. Congratulations Sam on your third consecutive National Cross Country Title.

Swimming - Vincent Dai, 2015 World Junior Swimming Championships

Year 12 student Vincent Dai has been busy studying on the go. He has had a week of racing at the Junior World Swimming Championships held last week in Singapore, and carries straight on to Samoa for the Commonwealth Youth Games. » Read More

Vincent led off the 4x100m Freestyle relay in 50.03, with team mates Kyle Chalmers, Brayden McCarthy and Jack Cartwright swam 3:17.39 to win the Gold medal. The team was 0.4 off the junior world record which was 3:16.96. USA came 2nd and Italy came 3rd.

Vincent also came 10th in the 50m Freestyle (22.85) and 10th in the 100m Freestyle (50.08).

We wish him all the very best of luck in Samoa with his racing and his study.

Knox Dog Policy - new policy for parents

To improve safety of the students and visitors to the school, we are moving to a No Dogs Allowed policy. It is unlawful for dogs (Companion Animal Act 1998), leashed or unleashed, to be on school grounds, unless they are assistance dogs, security patrol dogs or police dogs. » Read More

Dogs may no longer be brought onto any Knox Grammar School property, including the Prep and Senior School campuses and all playing fields, including Curagul and Gillespie Fields.

New signage will be installed over the coming weeks reflecting this change in policy. Our Security Team has been asked to let parents and carers know that we are moving to a dog free school.  If you bring a dog onto school property, you may be approached by the School’s Security Team and asked to leave.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding on this safety initiative.

Track and Field
Chris Pittman, Director of Track & Field

On Tuesday 25th August, 30 Knox athletes competed at the IPSHA Track & Field Championships at SOPAC. » Read More

At the final invitational at Blacktown Sportspark, Knox athletes took the opportunity to modify their competition programs. Athletes made those final technical changes to their performances and many scaled back their events to freshen and prepare themselves for the CAS Championships this Thursday the 10th September 2015.

Nicholas Frost was more than a tower of strength completing a demanding program. Nick threw 50.99m in the U16 Discus testing the CAS record of 51.33m. In the Open Discus Nick threw 43.93m and showing that he can threaten the record of 44.43m. This is even more amazing given he completed a 14.06m throw in the U16 Shot Put in between these events. Nick personifies the meaning of being a team member, despite nagging injuries Nick will do everything possible to complete a program on Thursday night that consists of Discus, Shot Put, Javelin and Hurdles. John Hunter was also impressive in the U13 and U14 Discus setting very respectable marks of 38.91m and 38.25m.

Despite the tapered approach some notable performances were still recorded on the track. Garrett Badenhorst continued to slice time in both the 100m and 200m running 11.4sec and 23.2sec respectively. Thomas Cameron was electric in the U15 200m clocking 23.2sec. Thomas Gordon was again exceptional running a 4:36.09sec in the 1500m to emerge as one of our premier distance runners in recent memory. Over the course of the season Tom has run sub10min 3000m and in his first 1500m run set a very respectable 4:36.09sec. Ryan Boot capped the day with a strong performance in the Open 400m running 51.30sec as he continues to shave time off his Season Bests (SB) and sends a message that he is ready to contest this Thursday.

The full results are available on the Track and Field page on the Knox Portal.
