Jack Muir wins Monash Scholarship


Knox Old Boy Jack Muir (OKG09) has been awarded the Origin Foundation John Monash Scholarship 2015, worth approximately $180,000.

Jack will be studying for a PhD in Engineering at the California Institute of Technology from late 2015.

Jack is completing a Bachelor of Philosophy (Science) with Honours from the ANU.

Jack’s interests are in the interface between statistical methods and the natural sciences, and he will study for a PhD at the California Institute of Technology (CalTech).  His PhD will use tomographic imaging to understand the Earth’s mantle and core.  Understanding of these features may provide benefits for minerals exploration, seismic activity – including the continuing goal of producing accurate advice in regards to seismic hazard reduction – and other geophysics challenges.
