Prep boys get their hands dirty for a good cause

Year 4 students from the Prep are working to regenerate native bushland next to Turramurra Oval as part of the school’s Service Learning program.

The students visit the bushland site once a month to remove problem weed species and plant native tubestock under the guidance of bushcare officers from Ku-ring-gai Council.

“It’s a chance for the boys to get their hands dirty while giving something back to the community,” said the teacher coordinating the program, Denis Kelliher.

“The boys have really enjoyed learning about the different plant species and the wildlife inhabits our local bushland reserves,” said Denis.

All Knox Prep students are involved in similar community projects including cooking food for the homeless, visiting St Lucy’s School and fundraising for KIVA microloans.
