Knox students visit NASA Headquarters

A visit to the Headquarters of NASA in Houston, USA, was among the highlights of the inaugural Knox Grammar School’s ‘Space School’ trip in the school holidays.

The group of fifteen Year 7 to 9 students, who have an interest in engineering and astrophysics, met former astronauts, wore full astronaut gear and tried out the 5 Degrees of Freedom (5DF) trainer, which was used by the Gemini, Apollo, and Skylab astronauts to practise moving in a frictionless environment.

The boys also took part in a ‘Space School’ competition against hundreds of other students from across the United States and the world, and won the Most Outstanding Team Award.
