Mission of Flowers, a play with Old Boy Leof Kingsford Smith

The Life of aviator Bill Lancaster was high drama in the sky and on the ground. It is a story that has fascinated both Mosman playwright Gerry Greenland and Wahroonga actor Leof Kingsford-Smith OKG '71.

Ironically, Kingsford-Smith is the grand nephew of the famous aviator Charles Kingsford-Smith but family loyalty hasn’t stopped him playing the part of Lancaster.

The play is called Mission of Flowers. It chronicles Bill Lancaster's journey from his 1917 flight from Britain to Australia and his promise to his mother to distribute pamphlets for "The Mission of Flowers" charity along the way. It will be the first opportunity for local audiences to see the play after it was performed in Adelaide, London and both the Hollywood and Edinburgh Fringe Festivals.

The final performance is this weekend at Marian Street Theatre, Killara at 2.00pm on Saturday, 30 October.
