Tips from an expert

FORMER Italian Serie A soccer player Andrea Icardi has gone head to head with some of the world’s greatest players including Pele and Argentinian superstar Maradona.

The retired AC Milan club player lives in Sydney where he coaches children through the club’s Milan Soccer School.

Icardi, 48, was at St Lucy’s School, Wahroonga Friday, 5 August to pass on some tips in a free coaching clinic to more than 30 boys from St Lucy’s and Knox Grammar Preparatory schools.

Icardi and former Italian youth team representative Frank Gigliotti conducted training drills in shooting, passing and tackling.

“It was really fun and intensive,” Icardi said.

“It was really different for us and the boys responded very well to their football training.

“I enjoy coaching them and whenever I coach I always pick up something from the players.”

The Milan Soccer School, which has more than 300 members, offers specialist programs in three age groups; 6-8 years, 9-12 and 13-18.

A selected academy side competes against overseas academy teams each year.

Icardi played eight seasons in Serie A with AC Milan, Atalanta, Lazio and Hellas Verona.
