CENTENARY STORIES

The Knox Class of 1967 sits the HSC

In 1961, the Wyndham Scheme transformed the experience of secondary students in New South Wales through a significant overhaul of the curriculum and introduction of a sixth schooling year and subjects such as Visual Arts, Music and Languages were added.

Learning was structured according to age-based grouping and the expectation that students had no knowledge of subjects prior to the topic being taught. Not all students stayed for Year 12, as the final years were intended to prepare students for entrance into universities.

The Knox Class of 1967 was the first to sit the HSC with 92 of the 190 students taking the exam.

As a result, 25 students received a Commonwealth University Scholarship, four students received a Commonwealth Advanced Education Scholarship (for tertiary study other than university) and nine students received Teacher’s College Scholarships.
