Year 12 student Tyler Jackson spent a fruitful few days in the nation’s capital last week at the 29th National Schools Constitutional Convention, held at Old Parliament House.

In 2023 Tyler attended the NSW Constitutional Convention where students discussed the topic: ‘Do we need to revise how we go about constitutional change?’, and from this experience was selected as one of 120 students nationwide to attend the National conference.
At the National Conference students discussed the question: ‘Section 96 of the Constitution allows the Commonwealth to grant funds to areas that fall outside those prescribed in Section 51. Should Section 96 be amended to decentralise the power of the Commonwealth?’
Tyler says his Legal Studies teacher, Thomas Zagami, was a driving force behind this interest and encouraged him to participate in constitutional discussions.
“My favourite part of the experience was forming connections and bonds with those who were also on the trip, as well as contributing to discussions around Section 96 of the Constitution, resulting in a communique being given to the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Andrew McLachlan CSC, for their consideration,” Tyler says.
“I also enjoyed dinner at the National Press Club, and meeting the Governor-General and local MP Julian Leeser.”

Year 7 students Jeremy and Jayden selected Knox iconography that resonated with them to feature in the design of a centenary stained-glass window. Their chosen icons blend the old and new, honouring our history and traditions, while also celebrating present day life and future innovation.
