Year 5 Knox Prep student Bowen Jin recently traveled to New York where he underwent a rigorous audition process to pursue a position at one of the most prestigiously acclaimed music schools and universities in the world: The Juilliard School.

Juilliard is renowned for only accepting the top musicians from across the world to its New York campus. Bowen said he was a “little nervous in the audition room” but a few days after his audition he was told the good news that he had been accepted. Bowen played a Caprice, a music piece from Mozart and two movements from Bruch Violin Concerto. During his visit to the US, Bowen met with many other talented young musicians and top level violinists and teachers.
Bowen has been accepted into the Pre-College of the Junior School majoring in Violin. He will start his violin study with a well-known Japanese violinist and violin teacher in September. Juilliard’s Pre-College Music Program is designed for students 8-18-years-old who exhibit the talent, potential and ambition to pursue music study at the college level.
Being accepted into Juilliard is truly a remarkable achievement as only four or five children are accepted to Pre-College in Violin all over the world each year. We wish Bowen and his family all the best in New York and look forward to following his musical journey and successes.

“We were motivated to invent a tool that would help the community and society, by making an application not just for us students,” said Daniel (Year 11). “From what I’ve observed, our Student Administration Officer takes a lot of phone calls about student absence, and she could have more time to be focused on more meaningful tasks.”
