A proud Gunditjmara, Nyoongar and Jawoyn student, William takes great pride in the history of his great grandfather Captain Reginald ‘Reg’ Saunders, the first Aboriginal Australian to be commissioned as an officer in the Australian Army.
William has been a member of the Knox Cadets since Year 8, which has seen him find great connection with his family. After completing Year 12, William is interested in becoming an Engineer with the Australian Defence Force.
Australian Indigenous Education Foundation (AIEF) is supporting over 1,000 Indigenous students like William to complete their education and contribute to our nation's development through further study and employment. Their voices are an important reminder of the new generation of Indigenous young people defining success on their own terms, while honouring the history of their Elders.
