Instead, Year 12 students Kevin L and Kevin H, and Year 10 student Nathan will perform on the world stage in their expert fields of chemistry, earth sciences and informatics at the 2024 International Science and Mathematics Olympiads.
The students were congratulated by the Hon Paul Fletcher, Member for Bradfield.
Kevin H with Professor Ian Chubb.
Kevin L with Professor Ian Chubb.
Nathan with Professor Ian Chubb.
Receiving their participant blazers at a ceremony at Parliament House in Canberra at the end of term, the students were recognised along with 24 of their peers from across the country.
They heard from Minister for Industry and Science Ed Husic, as well as Emeritus Professor Ian Chubb AC FAA, who was Australia’s Chief Scientist from 2011-2016.
Australian Science Innovations executive director Vanessa Kates said of the Olympians: “They are a group of students who have worked hard to be selected for the Australian teams. The International Olympiads are prestigious events where these outstanding students can showcase their own talents and build international networks.”
Kevin H will travel to China in early August for the Earth Sciences olympiad, Nathan will head to Egypt in early September for the Informatics Olympiad, and Kevin L will represent the country in Saudi Arabia later this month in the Chemistry Olympiads.
Each student qualified by participating in a rigorous process including extension programs and exams run by not-for-profit organisations the Australian Maths Trust (AMT) and Australian Science Innovations (ASI) over the past year.
Congratulations to Kevin, Kevin and Nathan.
