In early December, 27 Prep students and 27 Senior students travelled to Adelaide to compete in the VEX Nationals, proudly representing Knox Grammar School.
Knox Grammar School
It was an outstanding performance on the national stage, with Knox teams qualifying for the World Championships in St Louis, Missouri, USA in April 2026.
Prep students proudly represented the school across both Middle School and Elementary divisions. The nine 2076 teams competed over two days, many producing season-best scores, consistently strong averages, overcoming challenges and, in several cases, achieving finals appearances and earning coveted national awards.
In the Middle School Division, Knox was represented by four 2076 teams. Soggy Syntax (2076E) led the way, at one point, ranked first in both Skills and Tournament, and ultimately won the Teamwork 2nd Place Award.
Invalid Break-fast - 2076A - (Year 6)
Soggy Syntax - 2076E - (Year 6)
Everybody do the flop - 2076F - (Year 6)
Atom 2076M - (Year 5)
In the Elementary Division, five 2076 teams flew the Knox Prep flag. RJNM (2076U) from Year 4 enjoyed an excellent Nationals campaign, earning an extraordinary Teamwork 3rd Place Award.
Vector 2.0 - 2076R - (Year 5)
Puzzle Pieces - 2076S - (Year 4)
Cyberstorm 2076T - (Year 4)
RJNM - 2076U - (Year 4)
R2‑D2 - 2076W - (Year 3)
Vector 2.0 (2076R) combined determination with steady scoring and consistently demonstrated the values that underpin Knox’s robotics program, ultimately receiving the division Sportsmanship Award.
Together, these results demonstrate the depth of the Knox VEX program with every team achieving a personal best in either the Tournament or Skills challenge at a National level. The boys represented Knox Prep with distinction, teamwork and an abundance of enthusiasm, setting the school up with an excellent foundation for future seasons.
In the High School Division, all our teams (1940A, 1940C and 78887B) made it through to the elimination rounds, and due to their excellent showing in the qualification matches, their alliances were fittingly the top three seeds.
1940A High-Q made it all the way through to the final and came very close whilst up against a top-quality alliance in a tight best-of-three contest. Finishing first in the Skills Challenge, however, earned them an invitation to the World Championships next year. A well-deserved result after an outstanding season.
Knox Knights (78887B) and Knox Burnout (1940C) also had an outstanding tournament coming very close, but were beaten by very small margins in the quarter final stages.
Based on their performance throughout the season though, they will be hopeful of receiving one of the very few wild card spots to the World Championships.
In the Middle School Division, Knox were well represented by both 1940B Axis and 1940D Override.
Knox Axis really showed up at the pointy end of the tournament and performed strongly to reach the final. This result earned them our second invitation to the World Championships next year.
Knox Override (1940D) travelled to Adelaide to compete in the nationals after only starting robotics at the beginning of the year and made it all the way to the round of 16 in the elimination matches. A great achievement by these newcomers and they will only get better from the experience.
All in all, a fantastic weekend of VEX Robotics action!
