Last week, our Year 8 students ventured into the great outdoors for a week of camping in the Blue Mountains.

We asked our students about their experience. Here are their highlights:
“The activities included abseiling, rock climbing, mountain biking, a range of team-building activities, and a lengthy scenic walk around the beauties of the Blue Mountains,” said Kaito. “All of these activities made me try something new and helped me appreciate how fun time with the people around can be.”
“Throughout the five days, we did an eight-kilometre hike past the Three Sisters, and made damper bread,” said Jack. “When the weather was wet, we also had indoor games.”
“The abseiling as it took me out of my comfort zone,” said Harry. “It was set up well, and really enjoyable as a whole.”
“My favourite experience was the mountain biking (MTB),” said Jack. “And chilling with my friends in the cabins, as the MTB was a great physical activity. We all had fun and helped those who were unfamiliar with MTB.”
“I felt this experience created such a strong bond of mateship between us and let me learn a lot more about my peers,” said Kaito.
“Try everything,” said Harry. “Get out of the comfort zone as this way you’ll be able to have new experiences. You won't know if you’ll enjoy an activity until you give it a go. Make the most of the situation so you can have lots of fun and make memories that last a lifetime.”
“A big piece of advice I would say to the next cohort would be to not worry about who is or isn't in your mentor group,” said Kaito.
“My advice to next year’s cohort is to bring extra clothes,” said Jack. “Pack liners for your sleeping bags to stay dry and prioritise sleep so you can make the most of all the activities.”
