After school, Thomas sat his matriculation in 1932 and studied Arts at the University of Sydney. He went on to Oxford University, England to study Greek and Latin Literature.
Thomas was the 17th enrolled student at Knox. He attended the School as a boarder from 1924 to 1931. He was awarded 1st place in Form I in the School’s first year.
He won Form prizes every year from 1926, placing fourth in his final year. Thomas served on the Library Committee and participated in Rugby and Life Saving.
