CENTENARY STORIES

First edition of The Knox Grammarian is published

The first edition of The Knox Grammarian was published in December 1928, written and compiled by a small group of students with R L Brereton (OKG28) as Editor.
The Knox Grammarian Committee’s mission was to “record and reproduce all events of importance…onto a sheet that all can read”.

The 1928 Knox Grammarian is an invaluable resource of the early history of the school, detailing the opening of the School in 1924 and listing the students and staff who were present. This yearbook also features exam results, sporting fixtures and reports, photographs, clubs and societies reports, recounts of events, creative writing and student work, house information and prize lists. Interestingly this first cover was created by T O Knox, who was also the coach of the 1st XV.

Originally The Knox Grammarian was published three times annually, then was reduced to twice in 1950. In 1980, it was reduced to a single publication with the introduction of The Knox Review magazine.

The Knox Grammarian paved the way for the many publications of the School today: The Weekly, year newsletters, The Thistle, The Prepside News and The Magpie.
