Reginald Vernon Roberts MBE DCM (OKG35) sets Australian Schoolboy Mile Record

Reginald Vernon Roberts MBE DCM (OKG35) was a remarkable sportsman, participating in Cricket, Rugby, Swimming, Lifesaving, Tennis and Track and Field at the highest levels. He was a natural leader and was appointed South House Senior and the Captain of the 1st XV.
At the 1935 Associated Athletics Championships, Roberts set a new Associated Schools Record of four minutes 31 2-5 seconds in the Mile, breaking the record by an astonishing 13 seconds. This record would stand for 20 years.

After school, he bought a property in Walcha. In 1940 he enlisted in the Australian Army and saw six years of active service, rising to the rank of Captain. Reginald was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal in 1942 for gallant conduct and outstanding devotion to duty whilst in action. In 1944, he was awarded Member of the Order of the British Empire for meritorious service and outstanding ability and for exceptional courage and devotion to duty.
