On Friday 19 September, we celebrated the incoming 2026 prefects and executives in the Great Hall.
Knox Grammar School
Mani, School Captain, Lewis, Vice Captain – Social Justice, Miles, Vice Captain – Prefects, along with the entire prefect and executive portfolio, will be inducted at the William McIlrath War Memorial Chapel in early Term 4.
At Friday’s announcement, Mani gave his first address. Here is an excerpt:
“Always striving to achieve their best as a team, whether on the sporting field, parade ground, on stage, or in the classroom. An incredible team of prefects and executives has guided the Class of 2025, setting an exceptionally high standard of leadership that defines what it means to be a Knox man.
“I would like to make special mention of our Vice Captains Henry and Chester, whose unwavering dedication to the Thistle and commitment to others is nothing short of extraordinary. Your talents and successes run far and wide across the school and you far-reaching impact has inspired many of us today.
“So, to everyone in the Class of 2025, thank you. Watching you leave will be a saddening moment for all of us, but you have left an incredible legacy and impact on us all, and we wish you the very best for the future. On behalf of the entire school, thank you.
“To my peers, Class of 2026, I want to offer a heartfelt congratulations. After months of preparation and weeks of relentless exams, it's so rewarding to see my mates from the cohort of 2026 stepping up to become the leaders of the school. Your leadership journey at Knox is not determined by the colour of your tie. It's our responsibility to all step up as a team to lead the school and achieve the best we can over the next 12 months. Whilst I know there will be disappointment, life is all about how you respond to adversity and grow from it. Always remember that we're here to support one another, and I have full faith and confidence that every person will give their all in contributing to the incredible culture and brotherhood that we enjoy here at Knox.
“To my fellow Prefects of 2026, congratulations on your appointment. Becoming a prefect is no easy task and it is your reflection of your service and commitment to the school community. I know firsthand the calibre of the young men standing beside me. I have every confidence that we will continue the legacy of the Class of 2025, making 2026 a year full of celebration, growth, service, unity, compassion, and courage. Our year will be like a symphony. One instrument alone cannot carry the piece. But when every section placed together, through the high and lows, we create the harmony and something extraordinary.
“To our new Vice Captains, Lewis and Miles, our potential is unlimited. Working alongside your both for the last few years has been a privilege, and your leadership ethic and passion are inspiring. I know we will achieve amazing things, and I can't imagine a better duo to stand alongside me as we lead the school into another unforgettable year.
“And to the younger boys who aren't yet nearing the end of their journey, please know this, your new prefect team and the entire Class of 2026 are more than willing to get to know you and have a chat. After all, we were once sitting where you are now, and we've been through the same experience you've had, so don't be afraid to come up and have a chat. We want to hear your stories and always be here for you. So, whether it's offering advice or having a laugh, no matter the issue, we're here to support you. And I encourage each of you to reach out to any of us, myself included, wherever you need a hand. You are the future of Knox, and we are here to strengthen the connection with you and share this journey.
“Boys, I am so excited about what's in store for the coming year and beyond. So, let's each commit to make a difference within the school community. It has been an honour, and I look forward to having the opportunity to speak to you across the next year.
“As always, Virile Agitur, go the Black and Blue.”
