Biographies

Herbert Alan Manning (OKG29)

Knox’s #12 Student 1924

Herbert, or Ham as he was known, was the 12th enrolled student at the School. He attended from 1924 to 1927. Herbert was a member of North House and participated in House Competition and played in the 1927 1st XV Rugby team. Herbert was awarded 1st place in his Form in 1924, 3rd place in his Form and the Sports and Studies Prize in 1926 and 5th place in 1927.

After school, Herbert became a grazier on a property known as 'Wongan' in Coonabarabran. He enlisted in the Australian Army in 1939 and was mentioned In dispatches in 1943 for "gallant and distinguished services in the South West Pacific area".

Herbert married Margaret Body in 1942. He later became a broadcasting officer in Edgecliff before returning to work on Rylstone property 'Kona' with his father.

His brother John (OKG32) attended the School and sadly passed away in 1929. His son Michael (OKG60) also attended.
