Rex (Gundy) Driscoll Fisher (OKG27)

Knox’s #14 Student 1924

Rex, affectionately known as ‘Gundy’, was the 14th enrolled student at Knox. He attended the School from 1924 to 1927. Rex was one of the oldest boys to attend the School, arriving as a boarder aged 13. Rex played in the 1st XV in all four years of his attendance. He was awarded the Captain Robert William Aspinall MC Memorial Prize in his first year on the team and served as Captain for his final three years, receiving Colours. Rex played for the 1st XI from 1924 to 1927.

After school, Rex ran the family’s station ‘Emby’ at Gulargambone. In 1935, he married Ila and they had two children.

The Rugby Football Challenge Cup, for House Rugby competition, was donated by his father AB Fisher and first awarded in 1926.

His brothers Carl (OKG31) and Arthur (OKG33) attended the School. His son, Tony (OKG53), and his three grand-nephews also attended the School.
