Dr Colin Graeme Hunter DSC (OKG27)

Knox's #22 Student 1924

Colin was the 22nd enrolled student at Knox. He attended the School from 1924 to 1927. He was the Captain of the School’s first 1st XV Rugby team.

Colin moved to New Zealand with his family in 1927 and continued his education at Scots College, Wellington. He graduated as a medical doctor from University of Otago.

He served in the Royal Navy and was awarded a Distinguished Service Cross (DSC) for his duty as the principal medical officer on the HMS Achilles in the Battle of River Plate, the first major naval engagement of World War Two, against the German battleship, ‘Graf Spee’ in 1939.

He married Louise Riley in 1944 and had a son and a daughter. He became a Professor of Physiological Hygiene and was integral in the establishment of Shell Tunstall Toxicology Laboratory in England.
