He participated in School Plays and the Drill Team. In his final year at Knox, George was North House Senior, Cadet Under Officer for No 2 Platoon, and Leader of the Bianchi Debating Team.
George had warm memories of the early Cadets program. He recounted his experience of parading every morning for 20 minutes, which occasionally caused a late arrival to class. He remembers practicing and competing at Drill and small arms shooting on the Oval towards the railway line.
After school, George worked in real estate, then in tractor assembly. He married Edna Wilson in 1940 with whom he had a son. He enlisted in the Australian Army in 1941 rising to the rank of Captain in the Port Operating Company. After the war he became a manager in Wahroonga.
