George Bartlett Thomas (OKG33)

Knox's #26 Student 1924

George was the 26th enrolled student at Knox. He attended the School from 1924 to 1931 and finished his schooling at The Kings School.

George was in the School’s first 1st XV Rugby team and was selected to the 1st XV again in 1930. George participated in Track and Field and was selected to the Associated Schools team and received Colours in 1930.

He participated in School Plays and the Drill Team. In his final year at Knox, George was North House Senior, Cadet Under Officer for No 2 Platoon, and Leader of the Bianchi Debating Team.

George had warm memories of the early Cadets program. He recounted his experience of parading every morning for 20 minutes, which occasionally caused a late arrival to class. He remembers practicing and competing at Drill and small arms shooting on the Oval towards the railway line.

After school, George worked in real estate, then in tractor assembly. He married Edna Wilson in 1940 with whom he had a son. He enlisted in the Australian Army in 1941 rising to the rank of Captain in the Port Operating Company. After the war he became a manager in Wahroonga.
