CENTENARY STORIES

Chapel memorials

Mr F G Carpenter was a member of the Preparatory School staff from 1935 until his death on 5 October 1937. He also participated in Debating and managed School Cricket. In the 1937 December Grammarian it was noted that he had been on staff for three years and:
“During that time in all his many activities, he showed himself an able scholar, a gifted teacher, a keen enthusiast and generous sportsman.”

The F G Carpenter Memorial Chair, a handsomely carved chair with a high back and School Crest, was initially placed in the School Library at the Librarian’s table. It is now located in the School Chapel.
