DANIELLE BRANDON

Head of Knox Grammar Preparatory School

What's your role at Knox?

Head of Knox Grammar Preparatory School.

What or who inspired you to pursue a career in education?

Like so many educators, I always knew I wanted to be a teacher. From an early age, I was drawn to working with children, beginning with teaching Dance. It is young people’s relentless curiosity, boundless enthusiasm for learning, and pure joy in discovering new things that inspired me then and continues to inspire me now.

What part of your role do you gain the most joy?

I love the relationships at the heart of school life. When educators and families work in partnership, the young people in our care flourish, and that is where the greatest joy is found.

Why did you join Knox?

The outstanding reputation for providing a holistic education for boys drew me to Knox. I am quickly learning that this reputation is truly reflected in the lived experience.

What is the secret to good teaching and inspiring our young people?

Inspiring young people starts with knowing their story and discovering their spark. As Australian psychologist and author Dr Michael Carr-Gregg often notes, feeling known is the foundation for learning and wellbeing.

What’s your leadership style and why have you found this to be successful?

I lead by staying curious, flexible, and responsive. Being an adaptive leader means adjusting to people and context, and I’ve found this creates confidence, trust, and positive momentum across a school community.

What impact do you hope to leave on the students?

I hope boys leave Prep feeling confident in who they are, curious about the world, and proud of their effort – ready to take the next step with courage and compassion.

What is the biggest challenge facing the education sector at the moment? What would you like to see in the future or how do you intend to help fix the problem?

A key challenge is empowering children to navigate increasing pressure and distraction while still encouraging them to be curious, playful learners. I hope to contribute to the calm, connected Knox environment that supports boys’ wellbeing, character, and growth alongside academic learning.

Who are you outside of Knox?

I am a proud mum to my young son, Archer, and I love spending time with family and friends.

Share one fun fact that people might not know about you.

I was an ‘extra’ in a Goosebumps movie when I was a teenager!

What advice would you give to anyone joining Knox?

Lean into the community, trust the journey, and enjoy watching your children grow. I am confident that Knox is a wonderful place to belong!
