ABOUT OUR SQUADS

Blue Squad

Blue Squad is the first Squad beyond the Learn-To-Swim Program (Mini Squad being the final Learn-To-Swim Squad). As such it begins the transition from ‘teaching’ to ‘coaching’. The focus is to continue swimmers’ development in all four strokes, with both a view to ensure they are proficient in these strokes, and also to give them a basis for participation in competitive swimming if they choose. The emphasis is to improve technique in all strokes, including starts and turns, and introduce basic skills and knowledge to assist in competitive performance.

Black Squad

The focus is to continue and refine swimmers’ development in all four strokes from the level attained in Blue Squad, with an increasing focus on developing their skills for competitive swimming. The emphasis is to continue to improve technique in all strokes, including starts and turns, develop endurance and speed, and continue to improve skills and knowledge to assist in competitive performance.

Fitness Squad

Fitness Squad caters for both competent junior swimmers involved in swimming as a competitive sport, but who are not yet eligible for a Performance Squad; and competent swimmers who wish to swim for fitness, health and wellbeing. The focus is to continue and refine swimmers’ development in all four strokes from the level attained in the transitional LTS program and Black Squad. It also focusses on developing their ability and skills for competition, and improving their fitness. The emphasis is to continue to improve technique in all strokes, including starts and turns, improve endurance and speed, and prepare swimmers for optimal school swimming competition or other sports, such as water polo.

Competition Squad

Competition Squad caters primarily for all swimmers who participate in school swimming competition and swimmers who may still wish to compete for Knox-Pymble Swimming Club (see below) or another club. The primary emphasis is to improve fitness and endurance, but attention is also given to improve technique in all strokes, including starts and turns, and to improve speed, especially for those swimmers who compete.

Junior Performance Squad

Junior Performance Squad is one of two Squads above Black Squad (the other being Fitness Squad). Junior Performance Squad caters for competent junior swimmers involved in swimming as a competitive sport. The focus is to continue and refine swimmers’ development in all four strokes from the level attained in Black Squad or Fitness Squad, with a focus on developing their full competitive potential. The emphasis is to continue to improve technique in all strokes, including starts and turns, improve endurance and speed, and prepare swimmers for optimal competitive performance.

Senior Performance Squad

Senior Performance Squad is the Squad above Junior Performance Squad. The Squad caters for accomplished senior competitive swimmers fully committed to competitive swimming. The focus is to continue and refine swimmers’ development in all four strokes from the level attained in Junior Performance Squad, with a focus on developing their full competitive potential. The emphasis is to continue to improve technique in all strokes, including starts and turns, improve endurance and speed, and prepare swimmers for optimal competitive performance.

Elite Squad

Elite Squad is the Squad above Senior Performance Squad. The Squad caters for accomplished open competitive swimmers fully committed to competitive swimming. The focus is to continue and refine swimmers’ development in all four strokes from the level attained in senior Performance Squad, with a focus on developing their full competitive potential. The emphasis is to continue to improve technique in all strokes, including starts and turns, improve endurance and speed, and prepare swimmers for optimal competitive performance.
